Purl at Brighton Belles WI summer fete
For a change, and a chance to get out into the sun, Purl took a collection of colourful yarns, assorted needles, knitted knick knacks and maybe a handful of ceramic buttons, to the WI summer fete on Saturday, July 31st.
Well, the morning started wet and rainy and the gazebos looked set to blow into the sea, but by 1pm the sun was out and there was Pimms on tap. Purl set up our stall of tea cosies, baby booties and miscellaneous other knitty goodies, then stocked ourselves up with more than enough home made cakes to last the afternoon...

knitted farmyard

As you can see our window has a new display - a beautiful knitted farmyard by Carol Lee, complete with knitted chickens and knitted cabbages.
If you would like a go at knitting your own farmyard, come in for a copy of Jan Messent's The Knitted Farmyard or choose from Jan's other amazing books - Knit a Fantasy Story and Knitted Gardens, both in stock now.

world knit in public day - june
Not just a day but a whole week of knitting in public. Back in 2005, Danielle Landes had the idea of bringing knitting out in the open so knitters, crocheters and the like could share their skills and meet fellow yarn crafters. Now in it's fifth year there looks to be over 700 events around the world - China, Norway, Australia, South Africa, Finland and the United States have all participated in the past.
This year there are two events happening in Sussex, welcoming knitters and their like, so here at Purl we thought we ought to let you know:
Saturday June 12th 2010
starts: 11am
host: Linda Brown, Shoreham by Sea Stitch & Bitch
knitting at: St Ann's Well Gardens, Hove
Sunday June, 13th 2010
time: 12 - 4pm
host: Artists Open Shop
knitting at: The Lido, Worthing seafront
